Things going in.....
08.31.2007 BOOKS
I've just finished up Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Stephen Vitiello recommended this to me. He also suggested Coraline and The Golden Compass. I've read them all and loved them all. I reckon he and I share a love for the slightly creepy and dark materials, among other things.
I plan on reading Gene Wolfe's Litany of the Long Sun as soon as soon as I finish Coehlo's The Witch of Portobello. Many thanks to my dearest friend, Corey, for hooking me up with his books! I would recommend Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun to anyone who likes Tolkien. there are no elves or hobbits in this book but the world that Wolfe has created is thorough and absorbing.
FILM
Being a fan of Mos Def and Michel Gondry puts this new film,Please Be Kind, Rewind ,on the top of my "Must See" List. I'm always looking for reasons to laugh. I crave more fantasy and more imagination in my life. I crave a a more relevant, meaningful, beauty from film. There are moments when someone's art speaks so clearly to the soul of a person that this feeling alone is what makes art worth nurturing and supporting. That just might sound super cheesy or ideal but it is true for me and possibly for a lot of people who create or love art in its many forms. Um, yeah, so I plan on seeing, Please Be Kind, Rewind.
Saw Painted Veil and that movie about a boy in wizarding school. Enjoyed them both. Cholera, love, tropical heat, Death Eaters, brooms and Mysteries...its all good.
MUSIC
That iPod my love gave me for Christmas has been so good to me. I love that it has made it much easier for me to enjoy music wherever I am. Shameless about it as I am. I could live without ,to be certain, but having it is good for me. Having music at the ready is good for me. Having story podcasts like Activated Storytellers and Griddlecakes Radio and Spare the Rock Spoil the Child in the car is good the entire family !!
I also enjoy and The Jefferson Hour, and Sound Culture on myPod.
BLOGS
And introducing two new bloggers ! My man, Chris Farmer, had been well known in some circles for his music composition and drumming but he's also a major sports enthusiast. Not only does he like to play anything that involves inflatable balls but he also has freakish knowledge about sports and athletes. He can almost always tell me where some player went to college and quote stats. This, apparently , is a talent passed down through the genes, Both his mother and father also share a great love for sports. So, it seems only fitting that Chris started a blog about Football. Please visit him here: THE UNDRAFTEDS .
Also starting a new blog is a dear friend who recently moved away to the mountains, Courtney. She's been an inspiring friend, mother and homeschool mama to me and I'm very pleased that she's decided to write. Not only because I can have a peek of how things are going in her life but because she has some wisdom to share. Who doesn't need a little more wisdom, eh? You can discover her at UNEARTHING ME.
Last but not least: Did I mention that I became a mother for the first time eight years ago today? Well I did. Perhaps I should put this bit of information under "Things coming out ?"
